Sargent-Disc and affiliates attended the 70th Festival de Cannes this year, where we attended and supported several events. We reflect on the highlights of this year's Festival.

Awards

 

The winners of the 70th Festival de Cannes awards were unveiled on Sunday 28th May. The winners were chosen by the Competition Jury, presided over by director and screenwriter, Pedro Almodovar, consists of directors Maren Ade, Park Chan-wook and Paolo Sorrentino, composer Gabirel Yared, actress Fan Bingbing, actress/producer Jessica Chastain, actress/director Agnès Jaoui and actor/producer Will Smith.

 

Ruben Östlund's The Squarewas awarded the prestigious Palme d'Or, whilst the Grand Prix went to 120 Battements Par Minute (BPM - Beats Per Minute)by Rob Campillo. Sofia Coppola took home the award for Best Director for her feature, The Beguiledand Andrey Zvyagintsev's Nelyubov (Loveless)took the Jury Prize. The award celebrating the Festival's 70th year was given to actress Nicole Kidman, who had several films in competition this year.

Sargent-Disc Green Production Round Table

 

Sargent-Disc was proud to host the Sargent-Disc Green Production Round Table, held in association with Film London and Screen Daily, at the Cannes Film Festival. Film and television production presents a worldwide platform to campaign for better environmental practices, through efforts behind camera as well as the message portrayed on screen.  With the need and desire to utilize eco-friendly production processes, European industry experts gathered at the Round Table to discuss steps that film and TV producers should be taking to adopt a more eco-friendly approach to making content.

International Producers Reception

 

Sargent-Disc, along with their affiliates, EP Financial Solutions, Canada Film Capital and EP Canada, hosted a reception at La Plage Royale on the opening weekend of the festival. Attended by over 200 producers and financiers from across the globe, it provided an excellent opportunity for them to network.

Women in Film and Television

 

Sargent-Disc was delighted to support the Women in Film and Television (WFTV) Brunch at Cannes again this year. Held on the Coutts boat, the event brought senior women working across the film industry in Europe, North America and Australasia together to network in an intimate setting.
