Ewelina Dziedzic, one of this year's recipients of scholarship support from Sargent-Disc, sheds light on her time at the NFTS so far.

NFTS Scholar Blog - Ewelina Dziedzic

Ewelina Dziedzic, Production Management Student at the National Film and Television School

'This year, September promised an exciting start when I began studying at the NFTS following a trip to the Venice Film Festival for a project I had worked on externally. My first challenge at the school turned out to be the Production Coordinator role on the feature project entitled "What The Eye Don't See". The film is a domestic drama that focuses on the relationship between a mother and a son, Anna and Jake. We follow Anna on an emotional journey of trying to regain the trust of her son after he catches her in a passionate embrace with his doctor.

My tasks included preparing, under the Producer's supervision, all the paperwork such as contracts, child licenses applications, transport plans, risk assessments and daily progress reports, alongside providing overall support for the production. Making sure everything was organised and catalogued gave me a lot of personal satisfaction.

Working on this project was a great start here, at the NFTS. The School distinguishes itself by its incredibly high standards that are reflected in their very good facilities: modern buildings with spacious classes, special bases for students in particular courses, with everything that a Production Manager dreams of. The school's stores have all the equipment needed for shooting. Students enter the School, and everything is waiting for them to start filming! Production kit, camera and lighting equipment - it's all at your fingertips. No matter what you need - with the help of Students and Staff, you will get it.

At this point, I would like to thank the Staff working at the School. When I started studying here, I didn't dare to dream of meeting so many lovely and helpful people. Everyone - starting with the lady at the reception desk, on to the technical employees, and including co-ordinators and tutors, everyone does everything they can to ensure that the Students have the best conditions to study and work, all with patience and a smile. I found answers to all my many questions and never felt that I was asking too much. I would like to wish every student the opportunity to develop their skills under the guidance of these wonderful people.

My First Year Film was an amazing opportunity to work with Students from almost every course. Everyone is extremely talented, and I am honoured to be part of this community. During our shooting, we had the chance to experience how important teamwork is. We shot in challenging conditions - rain, cold, and a big crew - including children. Without each other, it would be much harder to achieve success. However, we all felt that we had a common goal and it made us stronger.'

('What The Eye Don't See' cast & crew)

'"What The Eye Don't See" was great preparation for the next project, which is to be Production Manager on the hour-long live program about culture and art. The project, assuming there will be a Presenter and a Band, will be a real challenge, especially as everything will be broadcast live! However, we have a strong team and I have complete faith in them and the success of the project.

All this wonderful experience could have been my participation thanks to two institutions: representatives of the NFTS who gave me a chance and admitted me to school and representatives of Sargent Disc, in particular, Dr Laurence Sargent who believed in my potential and enabled me to learn by generously awarding me a scholarship.

Learning in NFTS is an amazing opportunity for me to develop under the guidance of the best specialists in the industry. In the future, my goal is to work on feature films and HETV series from action & crime genre, as well as on smaller productions exploring women's rights in the Middle East. The opportunity to continue to learn and improve my skills means a great deal to me and I am very grateful that so many people have put so much effort into helping me get this far.'
