National Film and Television School Scholarship Update

Summary

During a visit to NFTS on 12th August, we caught up with our Production Management Scholar, Katie Moriarty-Hopper, about her experiences on the NFTS Production Management course.

National Film and Television School Scholarship Update

Sargent-Disc is proud to support a Scholarship for two students taking the Diploma in Production Management for Film and Television, at the National Film and Television School (NFTS).

On Tuesday 12th August, Sargent-Disc visited the school to see what our scholars, and their fellow peers, have been getting up to. We met with several of the students who shared their filming experiences with us, ranging from producing dark thrillers in decommissioned prisons to comic game shows in studios.

Our Scholars:

We were taken on a NFTS tour to observe some of the students in their element, filming on set. We were then able to catch up properly with our scholar, Katie Moriarty-Hopper:

Katie is Production Managing three Documentary films as part of her graduation portfolio, working with three directors each with a unique project. It is an exciting challenge for Katie.

The films range from a personal insight into the world of bare knuckle boxing in England; an in depth look at the heart of multicultural Britain using the universal experience of death, as a means of comparison between the Ghanaian and traditional East End approach to death and funerals; and a film shot in Zimbabwe, about a blind musician who was part of a legendary Zimbabwean band, who busks with his 10-year old son Isaac to support his mother and family. They hope to raise enough money to record an album.

Sarah Evans, our other scholar, was unable to join us due to filming commitments.

Sarah has just wrapped the shoot on her graduation fiction film as a Production Manager. 'Nothing's Going to Change My World' is a teenage drama based in the seaside town of Margate during the 1990's - amidst the onset of the internet, LAN parties and grunge music. Shot on location in Margate and Buckinghamshire in 8 days, the film is currently being edited.

We wish them both well on their upcoming projects and look forward to seeing the end results.
