The subjects of this years winning films ranged from slavery and old age to terrorists and hostages with superb contenders across the action, romantic comedy, drama and musical film genres.
Always a star studded event, this year was no exception. Presenters included Samuel L Jackson, Danny Boyle, Ben Wishaw, Simon Pegg along with nominees Ben Affleck, Bradley Cooper, Sally Field, Jennifer Lawrence and George Clooney.

Unusually this year, European talent won three of the four major acting awards:
Another special moment was when producer and screen writer Michael G Wilson collected the Outstanding British Film Award for Skyfall - the first time in the Bond franchise's 50 year history that it has won a major award celebrating the creativity and quality of the production. Previous franchise wins include Ted Moore's BAFTA for Cinematography on From Russia With Love, the 1964 Sound Effects Oscar for Goldfinger and 1965 Visual Effects Oscar for Thunderball.
