New legislation aims to ensure all workers across all industries are paid more accurately and fairly. Greater transparency will allow workers to acknowledge and resolve any issues around incorrect pay quicker.
A number of regulatory changes are to be introduced by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) on 6 April 2019 designed to create greater transparency in the hours of work UK employees are being paid for. Under new legislation employers must:
a) provide payslips to all workers
b) show hours on payslips where pay varies by amount of time worked
Workers can bring a claim before an Employment Tribunal if employers fail to provide a payslip or if payslips received lack information.
The government wish to ensure workers are paid more fairly and accurately across all industries in the UK. The benefit for workers is that they will be more aware of their rights and able to react more quickly when they are incorrectly paid. Employers will need to update their payroll systems to ensure all workers receive a payslip.
Sally is a day rate worker. This means she is paid the same amount for each day she works regardless of how many hours she works in the day.
As her pay varies by how many days she works i.e. by the amount of time she works, her hours worked need to be included on her payslip even though her pay varies by the day not by the hour.
Sargent-Disc already generates payslips for all workers and has taken additional steps to comply with the new legislation coming into force on 6 April.
CrewStart™ customers can take comfort in the fact that they're using software that can record all of their variable payments for each week and display them on a timesheet to be approved. CrewStart™ can send payment details to Payroll for displaying on weekly payslips.

Payroll customers will benefit from a column that enables them to track total hours/days worked and gives them the ability to track hours against each type of payment. Users will need to track hours worked in their spreadsheet and provide Sargent-Disc with this data.
