Payroll & Accounting, July 2013

Dear Subscriber,

In this edition of our Payroll & Accounting newsletter, we bring you the exciting news of the Sargent-Disc BAFTA Filmmakers’ Market, which will be held at BAFTA, 195 Piccadilly, on the 13th July. We recommend you buy your tickets soon! Or enter our competition for a chance to win a Gold Pass.

It’s been over a month since this year’s Cannes Film Festival - we review the highlights of our involvement at the Marché du Film, including the announcements of our latest activity with the National Film and Television School. Additionally, we revisit the new UK Creative Industries Tax Credits, and the Sargent-Disc Production Card.

Sargent-Disc BAFTA Filmmakers Market

On Saturday 13th July, BAFTA headquarters will host a day of masterclasses, screenings and advice sessions, along with opportunities to network with fellow filmmakers. Last year’s Filmmakers’ Market was a huge success, with over 600 ticket-holders attending – we recommend that you buy one before they sell out!

More information

Tickets to all sessions cost £6 each, with screenings in the Run Run Shaw Theatre and a Networking drink free to any ticket holder. To buy tickets and see a full, detailed schedule of the day, visit the BAFTA website.

Cannes 2013

Despite being a quiet year for UK film nominations, the UK Film Centre was as active as ever at this year’s Marché du Film. For Sargent-Disc’s retrospective on its involvement at this year’s festival, read our news item with stories of the WFTV Brunch, UK Film Reception, and the announcement of the Sargent-Disc Scholarships for NFTS Production Management students next year.

Industry Seminars

The UK Film  website features a selection of videos of the seminars held at its venue. This includes Creative Strategies for International Film Finance, which was moderated by director Laurence Sargent, and featured a panel of industry experts – an excellent insight into the developments of film finance over the past year.

UK Creative Industries Tax Credits

Following the success of the UK Film tax relief system introduced in 2007, similar incentives are now available for high-end TV and animation productions.

Free Events

The Production Guild is currently running a series of seminars, featuring experts on the subject, to provide information on the new incentives. Tickets to the free events can be booked on the organisation website.

Sargent-Disc Production Card

Designed to help simplify the production process, the Sargent-Disc Production Card offers a secure alternative to the need for large amounts of cash on production. Developed in association with Barclaycard, Europe's leading issuer of Visa Commercial Cards, their backing combined with Sargent-Discs industry expertise, offers security and peace of mind for production.
