Software and training newsletter, October 2012

Dear Subscriber,

In this issue of the Sargent-Disc newsletter, we bring you the latest on using EP software products on Apple’s new Mac OSX Mountain Lion (10.8) operating system, along with a guide to Getting Started with Movie Magic Scheduling . We are also delighted to bring you details of new and creative film financing opportunities for independent films highlighted by our panels on the seminars - States of Independents, held at BAFTA in London and Creative International Film Financing at the Cannes Film Festival. We hope you find the newsletter interesting and useful.

Important notice for Mac users upgrading to OS X Lion

On July 25, 2012, Apple released Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8). Entertainment Partners have now released an update for Movie Magic Budgeting and Scheduling that is compatible with the new Mac OS.

To ensure a smooth transition, please deactivate your Movie Magic license(s) before upgrading to Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8). Once the new OS is installed, you will need to download the new installer from Entertainment Partners website, install the new update and reactivate your license. Leaving your Movie Magic license active whilst upgrading to the new OS will cause the Movie Magic license to work improperly and you will not be able to use the software.

A video walkthrough of the above steps is available on the BroadcastEP YouTube Channel. Please feel free to email us any questions you may have to and we will answer them to the best of our ability.

Financing Independent Film

The launch of Entertainment Partners new Financial Solutions division inspired us to work with BAFTA and the UK Film Centre in Cannes to present the latest thinking and opportunities for financing independent films.

The high calibre BAFTA: States of Independents Seminar panel explored how changes to the US production finance and distribution landscape could offer increased prospects for UK films.

At Cannes our Creative International Film Financing Strategies panel also provided advice to independent producers on how to raise finance for imaginative projects in the current economic climate through utilising the Equity Investment Scheme, tax credits, public investment and international distribution deals.

Support Analyst

It is just over a year since Dominic joined the Sargent-Disc support team and we want to thank him for his hard work, dedication and good humour. We asked him what he likes and dislikes and to share a few things with us:

Favourite Films: An eclectic mix starting with the wonderful animation features How to Train Your Dragon and Finding Nemo, to the crunching’n’punching Fast & Furious franchise and the funny, politically incorrect Hangover 1 & 2!

Music: Most pop music and a bit of Rock now and then!
